Dear All,
Everyone except my mother in my family has always suffered from terrible mouth ulcers.  Has anyone had any success treating these terrible plagues.  The only marginal success we've had has been a steroid mouthwash, which of course, is something we would like to NOT use.  Thank you for any thoughts.  Thank you, thank you, thank you....

I wanted to add that these are inside the mouth and on the tongue.
Thanks,

Have you tried a cayenne tea? I' might mix slippery elm bark powder with the cayenne for better tissue recovery and its very soothing.

Hi happyhorse, I was reading Debra St Claire preparation formula and found this formula for canker sores, is an all purpose liniment that can be used for sprains, strains, bruises and insect bites. She said "It stings, but it works! It dries up canker sores inside the mouth, and is also useful in treating poison ivy. The recipe comes from that dear herbal primer, Back to Eden. "
Ingredients :
2 ounces powdered Myrrh.  1 ounce Goldenseal, 1/2 ounce Cayenne pepper and 100 proof vodka, make it as tincture. But remember canker sores is  a symptom, and you need to know the cause can be stress, lack of sleep, sudden weight loss, food allergies, immune system reactions, and deficiencies in vitamin B12, iron, may contribute to their development. I hope it help you.

I have found that whenever I get a cold sore I apply Oregano oil and it works to lessen pain and get rid of it faster.  I also have chewed a plantain leaf and shoved it on the spot under my lip and held it there for the longest time I could.  Have used Myrrh and it works well.  Also you might want to try white oak bark, it's supposed to be really good for mouth sores.

A reason you might have sores might be because of HSV1.  Does it run in your family?  My mom started getting fever blisters (on her lip) after her first husband cheated on her.  Because she's kissed me, drank after me, ate after, etc... I have cold sores in my mouth.  I know it can be beat by the right herbs and diet and oregano really does the job.  Now the only time mom's flares up on her is after terrible stress.  Mine is normally with stress and after I've had a cold.  Figures, toxins coming out!

I've found this on the internet, lots of people say "Eww, herpes!?!"  Here's a good definition.

"Type 1 herpes simplex virus.
Herpes simplex virus type 1 ("HSV1") generally only infects those body tissues that lie "above the waistline" and it is HSV1 that causes cold sores in the majority of cases.

Type 2 herpes simplex virus.
Herpes simplex virus type 2 ("HSV2") usually only infects those body tissues that lie "below the waistline" and it is this virus that is also known as "genital herpes." Herpes simplex virus type 2 is not usually the virus that causes cold sores, although it can.

When you think of having an infection you usually assume that you were recently exposed to the germ that has caused your problem. With cold sores this is not the case. Cold sores are not a sign of a recently acquired herpes simplex infection but instead a reactivation of herpes virus particles already living in your body. Cold sores occur when latent herpes simplex virus particles, which have been lying dormant ("asleep"), become reactivated. "

Good luck!

I don't think cold sores and canka sores are the same thing. Cold sores are on the outside of the mouth and are a result of a virus laying dormant in the spine, they come back repeatedly year after year and are very contagious. Normal idea of cold sores is that once they have been contracted, you will continue to have them the rest of your life. Dr Christopher has a program for it which does include myrrh that is reported to get to the base of the problem.

Canka sores are inside the mouth and do come from a varity of different ways:
-Actual sore in the mouth from biting cheak or tongue or food scraping the mouth, throat or tongue
-Overreaction to acidic foods such as pinapple-always rinse the mouth out after having a bowl of pinapple
-Stress
-Alergies, some people have overreactions to some foods or pollen or who knows what. For this I lean HEAVILY on Immunecalm which is Astagulous and Marshmallow.

I have tried the organo oil, it hurts terriblily and didn't help the problem but worstened it. After many many trials and no results of various herbs and natural healing, I finally tried the Immunucalm. What a blessing in a bottle! Rather than serious canka sore for 7-10 days, it will be gone in 1-2 and only very very mild. That's the one that worked for us. Of course, it is always best to catch things like this before it goes full blown. So at the first sign, take about 3 capsules. Increase as necessary. Remember for Accute (short term) conditions, we treat the problem agressivly and with all the force we can until it retreats a short time later.. With chronic conditions (long term), we use as directed, 2 capsules 3x a day  for long period of time

Cold sores can also be called fever blisters, although they do not relate to a fever.
http://www.answers.com/topic/cold-sore
"Definition
A cold sore is a fluid-filled blister which usually appears at the edge of the lips. Cold sores are caused by a herpes simplex virus infection.
Description
A cold sore is a fluid-filled, painful blister that is usually on or around the lips. Other names for a cold sore are fever blister, oral herpes, labial herpes, herpes labialis, and herpes febrilis. Cold sores most often occur on the lips which distinguishes them from the common canker sore, which is usually inside the mouth. Cold sores do not usually occur inside the mouth except during the initial episode. Canker sores usually form either on the tongue or inside the cheeks."

More info on the link for definition of cold sores. The intial question was about canka sores though, I wanted to mention, that sometimes Rosemary mouth rinse (take some rosemary and simmer for 15 min) is sometimes helpful. Also drink it for additional benifit. It helps remove some of the pain, but not the cause. Coconut Water can sometimes remove them, drink about 3 little boxes a day. it at least takes some of the edge of and helps it heal faster. Still the best I've tried is the Immunucalm. Give it a try.
